Aston Harvey is a London-born producer and DJ, best known as the driving force behind The Freestylers. Hooked by b-boy electro in 1984, he saved a summer job's wages for a pair of Technics 1200s, cut his teeth on Ultimate Breaks and Beats, and learned production as a studio hand in Brockley before making early rave records under the name Blaps Posse.
Signed to Fresh Records, he formed The Freestylers with Matt Cantor and released the debut single Drop the Boom as a white label. Their album We Rock Hard, featuring MCs Tenor Fly, Navigator and Soulsonic Force (the latter connected through Arthur Baker), became a big-beat blueprint. Chart hits B-Boy Stance, Ruffneck and later Push Up followed, plus touring that included opening for Lenny Kravitz across America.
Still a fixture of the breaks scene, Harvey plays regularly in Spain, records as Pirate Jams, and performs in the King of the Beats lineup alongside Krafty Kuts and Plump DJs. His Dub Pistols collaboration Enter the Sound arrives March 2026.
