Lee Rous is one half of the Plump DJs, the breakbeat duo he formed with studio partner Andy Gardner after the pair pooled resources — Rous sharing his gigs, Gardner his studio. Raised on his mother's soul and Motown and his father's rock and roll, Rous found his way to music via hip hop and graffiti, then learned to mix on the 1210s of a university friend: Matt of the Freestylers. He cut his teeth working as a runner at Freskanova Records and DJing as Lee Freskanova.
Emerging from the mid-90s reaction against saturated handbag house, the Plumps built their sound on tracks like Scram and Bumper, released prolifically on Finger Lickin' Records. Their retrospective compilation A Plump Night Out (November 2000) marked their breakthrough, and the pair went on to tour with Orbital, play Coachella, and headline massive Australian festivals.
Still creating decades on, Rous now records as part of King of the Beats with Aston Harvey and Krafty Kuts, alongside ongoing Plump DJs work.
