Qdup (Jason Andrews) is a Washington DC breakbeat and nu-funk DJ-producer who came up through the legendary Baltimore rave scene of the mid-1990s. First exposed to decks around age 15 in the DC suburbs of Maryland, he was quickly pulled into hardcore, drum and bass, and breakbeat via Baltimore nights like Fever (held at the Paradox club) and Rise (a warehouse party), and formed the 308 Crew during marathon basement jam sessions.
He met Steve Raskin of Fort Knox Five before the label existed, sitting in on early Thunderball sessions tied to 18th Street Lounge Recordings; Raskin became his production mentor, gifting him his first Mac and pointing him toward an MPC 2000. Around 2000 he moved to Los Angeles to hone production, launching DIY pressings as Qdup Foundation.
A longtime 18th Street Lounge resident, he plays festivals like Shambhala's Fractal Forest and with San Francisco's Space Cowboys, and now builds sample packs with Black Octopus Sound.
